Learn Self Defence

Lau Gar Kung Fu is a realistic and effective self-defence system based on traditional and modern training techniques.

The training we do within the classes is excellent for all-round fitness and body conditioning. We begin with circuit training consisting of running, press-ups, sit-ups, squat-thrusts and many other exercises to condition your body and get you into shape.

The self-defence is applied within the traditional Lau Gar system of Kung Fu. With 50+ years of experience from the two head instructors, we can offer you hands-on tuition from a top martial artist. We have a complete grading system in traditional Kung Fu which consists of set movements and traditional open hand forms and weapon forms for the higher grades. Plus we have sparring within the classes for those who wish to spar and/or enter regional or UK national tournaments. In the last 15 years we have produced British, European and World champions - male and female – in semi-contact and full contact kickboxing.

The club and some of its members are well-known around the country and also worldwide fo their fighting skills and achievements. There are special fitness classes available for those who wish to train that much harder once every month, but we point out that beginners are advised to take it easy on their first three sessions. We also have one-day seminars on street-fighting defence techniques taught by the country's top instructors.
